Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
Physician Doctor,  University of Alicante, Spain.
Associate Professor of Medicine, Universidad Miguel Hernández, Spain.
Director of the Group of Infectious Diseases of the Institute, ISABIAL.
Director of Internal Medicine Department, Hospital General Universitario, Alicante.

In 1986, after completing my training as specialist in Internal Medicine in 1986 in the Hospital General La Fe of Valencia, I initiated my professional tasks as a clinician in the Hospital General Universitario de Alicante. I was quickly interested in the care of patients with infectious diseases and especially in those who were infected with HIV and suffered AIDS. That period of my life coincided with the AIDS pandemic in Spain, when many young and immunosuppressed patients were continuously admitted in the Spanish hospitals with serious infectious diseases that frequently led them to death.

From the beginning, I was captivated by HIV infection and AIDS, and all my clinical and researching efforts were based in the pathogenesis of infection, opportunistic infections, clinical outcome, prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections and subsequently the treatment of infection and its complications. My interest in HIV and AIDS led me to study and treat other patients with infectious diseases and to expand my clinical and research knowledge in this area of the Medicine.

Most of my work as a Medical Doctor, University Professor and Researcher has been dedicated to HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.

At present I am the Director of the Department of Internal Medicine of the General University Hospital of Alicante, Director of the training of medical specialists in the Hospital, Director of the Research Group on Infectious Diseases of the Institute of Sanitary and Biomedical Research of Alicante (ISABIAL). In the University, I am an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Clinical Medicine of the Miguel Hernández University and Professor of a Master in Clinical Research and Infectious Diseases.
