Ignacio de los Santos
For more than 25 years I have been dedicated to seeing and treating patients with HIV infection in the field of infectious diseases and since 2000 I have been dedicated to the treatment of HIV/HCV coinfection, allways at the Hospital Universitario de la Princesa. I am currently attached to the Research Institute of the Hospital Universitario de la Princesa, as Group Leader of the line "New treatments in Infectious Diseases". In addition, I am the Principal Investigator of the Hospital within the AIDS Research Network, framed in the Thematic Networks (RETICS) groups of the Carlos III Health Institute.
Within these areas, I am developing different lines of research, including the study of HIV coinfection/hepatitis C virus infection, clinical trials of new drugs, validation of tools to predict response to treatment, management of the transient elastography to evaluate liver fibrosis. In the line of Treatment of HIV infection, using new drugs and new therapeutic strategies such as bitherapy.
I collaborate as a principal investigator in the AIDS Research Network including patients since 2004 and collecting blood samples for the network biobank.
I am Associate Professor of the Department of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid and I give practical and theoretical classes to the students of 3º, 5º and 6º course of Medicine.
I collaborate in the elaboration of the guides of Gesida and I belong to the Spanish Society of Internal Medicine and to the one of Infectious Diseases.
