Research Group on HIV and Viral Hepatitis, Infectious Diseases Department, IIS-Fundación Jiménez Díaz, UAM / Hospital Universitario Rey Juan Carlos.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Clinical Laboratory from the Universidad Católica de Manizales, Colombia. I received my PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. My research has been focussed on genetic and immunological factors involved in low susceptibility to HIV infection in HIV-exposed seronegative individuals (HESN) as well as the mechanisms involved in the spontaneous control of HIV infection in Elite Controllers (EC) individuals.
Currently, I am working in the research group on HIV and Viral Hepatitis at the Health Research Institute-Fundación Jiménez Díaz, UAM (IIS-FJD, UAM) in Madrid, participating in several research projects, mainly focused on the evaluation of host factors (immunological and genetic factors) involved in the pathogenesis of HIV infection in different group of individuals such as elite controller patients, HIV-exposed seronegarive individuals, patients with suboptimal CD4 T-cells recovery after antiretroviral therapy, and HIV/HCV co-infected patients.
Moreover, I am a member of the Spanish AIDS Research Network (RIS, RD16/0025/0013) working in different work packages of the Immunopathogenesis and Vaccines programs.
